World Book Day 2nd March 2025

Celebrate World Book Day 2025 with The Gallery Ipswich

We’re thrilled to announce that with the arrival of spring, The Gallery Ipswich will now be open on Sundays, starting with a special weekend celebration for World Book Day 2025. To mark the occasion, we’re raising a glass to some of the greatest minds in literature—those who didn’t just write the stories we love, but who also shaped the cocktail culture we enjoy today.

Cocktail Specials Inspired by Literary Greats

In honor of World Book Day, we’re toasting the literary legend Ernest Hemingway with a cocktail he held close to his heart – the Hemingway Daiquiri. A perfectly balanced combination of rum, lime, grapefruit, and maraschino liqueur, it’s a drink as bold and adventurous as Hemingway himself. As we turn the page to our Spring/Summer hours, we invite you to sip this timeless classic and explore a weekend of literary-inspired cocktails.

But Hemingway isn’t the only writer who found his muse in a glass. Throughout the weekend, we’re offering a range of signature cocktails loved by some of the greatest authors in history. Each drink tells its own story, offering a taste of the worlds these writers created.

Our Cocktail Specials

Hemingway Daiquiri (Ernest Hemingway)
Havana Club 3yr rum, lime juice, grapefruit juice, maraschino liqueur, gomme syrup
A tribute to Hemingway’s love of Cuba, this daiquiri is light, zesty, and packed with character—just like the man himself.
Famous works: The Old Man and the Sea, A Farewell to Arms, For Whom the Bell Tolls.

Gin Rickey (F. Scott Fitzgerald)
Beefeater London dry gin, fresh lime juice, soda water
Fitzgerald’s Gin Rickey is a refreshing, fizzy classic. Its lightness mirrors the glamour and excess of the Jazz Age, making it the perfect sip for fans of The Great Gatsby.
Famous works: The Great Gatsby, Tender is the Night, This Side of Paradise.

Screwdriver (Truman Capote)
Vodka, fresh orange juice
Simple yet effective, much like Capote’s sharp wit. The Screwdriver is a no-nonsense cocktail that delivers the bold punch of a well-crafted story.
Famous works: In Cold Blood, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Other Voices, Other Rooms.

Gimlet (Raymond Chandler)
Beefeater London dry gin, fresh lime juice
Detective fiction legend Raymond Chandler made the Gimlet famous in The Long Goodbye. This crisp, slightly tart cocktail is ideal for those who appreciate a sharp, mysterious edge.
Famous works: The Big Sleep, The Long Goodbye, Farewell, My Lovely.

Mint Julep (William Faulkner)
Buffalo Trace bourbon, mint, gomme syrup
A Southern classic for the author who captured the spirit of the South. Faulkner’s Mint Julep is as rich and complex as his novels—cool, sweet, and steeped in history.
Famous works: The Sound and the Fury, As I Lay Dying, Light in August.

Whether you're savoring a drink like Hemingway, contemplating life like Fitzgerald, or embracing the wild spirit of Capote, each of our cocktail specials has a story to tell. We’ve curated this menu for lovers of both cocktails and books, offering a literary journey through each sip.

Join us at The Gallery Ipswich for a weekend of cocktails and conversation. Sip slowly, as you might savor the pages of a great novel. This World Book Day, let's celebrate the timeless connection between literature and libations.
